Well, we made it back to Texas safe and sound! Thank yall for your prayers and support that enabled us to go on this trip! Jaron and I were blessed, encouraged, and strengthened by this trip.
After our two weeks of training in Merritt Island Florida, we traveled to Zambia by plane and then to Ndola by truck. Missionaries Doug and Barb Peterson, who live in Ndola at the TMI base, made us feel welcome and filled us in on what we’d be doing. Our purpose was to provide the children of several rescue units in Zambia with shoes. A typical “foot-washing” day would run like this: Around 2pm we’d get all the kids together (they don’t live at the bases but they were told we were coming so they always showed up at the base by 9am) and give a presentation. The presentations consisted of silent skits, songs, a testimony by one of the teens(via translator), and the gospel message presented by another of the teens(again, via translator). After that the team members were given their jobs for the day. Jobs were: Foot-washers, shoe runners, shoe sorters, and water runners. The rest of the kids were appointed to play with the kids to keep them out of the way of the foot-washers. We washed feet at 6 different bases and gave out over 1000 pairs of shoes. Around 1000 kids raised their hands to accept Christ and prayed a prayer of salvation. The team enjoyed playing with the kids and loving them. Many of the members were struck by how happy the kids were even though they had next to nothing. I’m sure everyone now appreciates more than ever how rich and blessed we are. The Lord was gracious and though we had many kids sick throughout the trip, none of the illnesses were life threatening and we had no broken bones or any other serious health threats. Jaron and I both loved the team and built many relationships. Again, thank you all for your prayers and support. We couldn’t have done it without yall!
